Workshop Instructor – Social Media and Online Security (Saskatoon, SK)

Created a custom presentation and facilitated a workshop about best practices in online security and how activist groups can leverage social media collaboration tools in safer ways to communicate. Presented independently to the PSAC (Public Service Alliance of Canada’s Saskatoon Region Women’s Committee) provincial government employee union group as part of their ongoing professional development series.

Taught a morning and afternoon workshop for classrooms of high school students familiarizing people with modul8 VJing software, giving a demo of my EEG (brainwave) controlled audiovisual system, and discussing career possibilities in computer science. Presented at the Digitized Conference by the Computer Science Department at the University of Saskatchewan and the Saskatoon Industry Education Council.

Classroom Instructor – Introduction to VJing (Regina, SK)

March 2008

Taught an afternoon workshop in VJing introducing participants to various tools for VJing. Introduction of participants to Arkaos, Modul8, Cosmic Painter, and Max/MSP/Jitter software, along with analogue video mixers, MIDI controllers, and advanced “no-input” techniques. Presented by The University of Regina’s Interactivity Lab and Dr. Charity Marsh.

Classroom Instructor – Introduction to VJing (Prince Albert, SK)

Teacher of 2 week long intensive Computer Science class in VJing at St. Mary’s High School. Production of three performance events at the Rawlinson Arts Centre and St. Mary’s High School for the participants of both the high school students’ class and the evening adults’ class. Presented by Common Weal Community Arts and St. Mary’s High School.

Designed and taught workshop for Pravin Pillay’s Extended Media class about how to use analog video mixers with prepared VHS tapes, live feeds, and DVDs for use in live performance settings. Covered basic transitions and effects, routing, luminance mapping, chromakeying, effects, troubleshooting methods, and elements of historical art theory about projection art. Presented at the University of Saskatchewan for a mixed level Extended Media Fine Arts studio class.

Workshop Instructor – Unlocking the Groove (North Bay, ON)

May 2004

Organizer of a combined workshop and presentation event focusing on the history of experimental turntablism, extended techniques, and their intersections with vinyl record sculpture. This event also featured structured presentations by DJs and art historians tobias c. van Veen and Marinko Jareb. I also ran a workshop in sculpture with vinyl records. This fun and fast paced hands-on workshop was presented at the W.K.P. Kennedy Gallery as part of the ‘Phantom Power Festival’.

Coordination and Implementation of an afternoon drop-in workshop about field recordings and recontextualizing the sounds of the gallery environment within the gallery itself, via multi-channel live remixing by the workshop participants. This workshop was presented at the Mendel Art Gallery as part of their ‘Something on Sundays’ as part of their ongoing public programming.

Participants were able to watch me make a working contact microphone out of doorbell buzzers, and then were able to attach them to resonant surfaces to activate them, while Jon Vaughn mixed these sounds with field recordings from the gallery space and elsewhere. This workshop was presented at the Mendel Art Gallery as part of their ‘Something on Sundays’ as part of their ongoing public programming.

Workshop Instructor – Vinyl Interventions Workshop (Saskatoon, SK)

Sept. 27, 2002

I facilitated this extensive workshop in experimental vinyl and turntable manipulation, with presentations by Esther B. (Montréal) and Marinko Jareb (St. Catherine’s), Jeff Morton (Saskatoon), and myself. I presented a workshop in sculpture with vinyl records and turntables. Also screened was a video I made in 2001 about the work of audio and installation artist, Christian Marclay. This experimental workshop was presented at AKA Gallery and paved Art + New Media as part of the ‘DIGIDOME Festival’.
